Using this service will not affect your registration at your own practice.
You will be able access the new service by calling your own practice to book an appointment up to seven days in advance for a GP and up to 14 days in advance for a nurse, although some weekend appointments will only be bookable from the Thursday before. Or you can call 111 to book an appointment when your practice is closed, providing the referral criterion is met.
This is no walk-in service therefore the walk-in appointments will not be available. You will need to book an appointment with your practice receptionist.
Also the new service does not include home visits.
If you need to cancel booked appointment you can do it by calling the Extended Hours GP practice where your appointment was to be held. Alternatively you can call the practice you are registered with, within their open time, and they can cancel your appointment for you.
These practices at Westbourne Green, Connaught Square, and Pimlico have replaced the ‘Weekend Opening’ service with the new extended hours service.
Note: This new service has replaced and built upon the existing ‘Weekend Opening’ service. The ‘Weekend Opening’ service was provided by hubs in each of the South and Central localities, and two hubs in the North locality. The hubs that offered this service in the North no longer run, whilst the two that served Central and South of the borough now offer extended appointments, seven days a week. As a result, the total number of extended hours GP and practice nurse appointments across Westminster has increased.
Accessibility - To ensure equality of access the new hubs are more fairly distributed across the borough. They are closer to A&E departments and transport links, and have been located in the areas of greatest deprivation, greatest demand, and highest use of urgent and emergency care.
Security/Confidentiality - All the GP surgeries in Westminster are connected to the same, secure IT network, meaning all patients’ medical records can be accessed and updated, and no matter which doctor they see. Your records will only be shared between the practice you visit and the GP access site if you have not actively opted out of data sharing. If you’re not sure whether you have opted out then you should check with your registered GP practice.
Unscheduled Care Collaborative is our Out of Hours operator. They are based at St Charles Hospital, Exmoor Street London, W10 6DZ. Contactable on the surgery telephone line during closing times on 0207 379 7209. Or on 0208 969 7777.
